The RIGHT Way To Celebrate International Dog Day
Who loves dogs? What a silly question, who DOESN’T love dogs?? Okay there are some people, and many of them have valid reasons (traumatic experiences, a deep and devoted love for cats). It’s fine, I get it. But those of you who do love dogs…let me tell you the best way to celebrate International Dog Day.
IF You Have A Dog Of Your Own
Get Up Bright And Early
Let’s face it, your dog gets up hella early ready to take on the day. You may not, but your sweet pup is ready and raring to go at like 6am. Do them one favor this time, and wake up early! This will give you a solid jump start to your International Dog Day festivities.
Take Your Dog On A Field Trip
If you socialize your dog, they’re going to be super stoked to get in the car with you. In the past, I’ve had dogs that were TERRIFIED to get in the car because they expected to go to the vet (pitiful angels). But if you did happen to take your dogs places to enjoy together, they’re going to be ready to rock in the car. Take them to the dog park, the beach, an outdoor restaurant, it’s up to you! They’ll love to be included, and will get the opportunity to play with the other lovable pups.
Splurge On Their Favorite Treat
Does your dog enjoy a little cup of whipped cream from Starbucks? Or maybe a Beggin’ Strip? You know they’re going to love anything you give them, but what is that special treat they only get for special occasions? They deserve a little extra love today for all the unconditional love they give us!
Share A Pic Of Your Angel
Last but not least, share a cute pic or video of your dog that shows how much you love each other! You can go full on collage, a collection of pics, video montage, anything that makes your heart happy. The bonus is you’re just adding to the sweet collection of adorable pups already flooding the internet. It’s a win-win scenario really.
If You DON’T Have Your Own Dog (AKA You Love From Afar)
Share some of your favorite dog pics/videos
We all see some cute (and wild) dogs on the internet. One of my FAVORITE dogs is Mr. Bubz. If I did not have a god of my own, I would 100% share videos of Mr. Bubz on my instagram story #bubblegumburritobody all day. If not, find some instagram accounts that share videos of precious dogs! If you have a breed preference you can literally find an insta account dedicated to them. I have a special place in my heart for Corgis, so I follow Corgi accounts to get my fix.
Share Pics of Your Past Dogs
*Trying not to cry
The worst thing about owning a dog is knowing they will pass before you. It’s really hard to deal with, but you just have to know that while they are here they are going to be loved by you and you are going to be their whole world. It’s such a special bond to share, and worth the occasional heartbreak. A great way to remember your past loves is to share pictures of them! My first dogs were named Frisbee and Sandy (silly names I know, what can I say). They were precious and crazy, I miss them all the time. It definitely helps to see pictures or old videos of them playing!
Volunteer at an Animal Shelter
A great way to show appreciation for dogs (and of course cats and other animals) is volunteering at a local animal shelter! This is a sweet way to get to know some animals and give back to them in the same way they give to us without expecting anything in return. And who knows, maybe you lock eyes with the dog of your dreams and you simply CAN’T leave without them.
Regardless of your current relationship status with dogs, you have multiple avenues to celebrate International Dog Day. Take this day to celebrate your pups and remember the ones you’ve loved and lost. Share your favorite canine pics below to spread the love!
